Benjamin Moore - Country Lane 2088-40

He stood there watching the
once beautiful field.
But as he came closer,
he saw dead bodies in the fields.

And if there was no movement
he would be soon part of the horror

Closed ears in hopes
of not hearing the screams.

The bombs still booming,
gunshots killing, blood flowing
down the country lane.

Snow falling
covering familiar
faces, worn out places

Fear and death
soon overcame.
the gunshots close
the pain loud
the blood near.

Fires burning
vans, villages
and homes.

The grounds soon covered
with Albanian blood
flowing down the country lane.

All leaving not knowing where,
running away from death
and misery.

Tanks crushing houses
and trees like toys.

The long walk
to the border,
the refugee camp
near filled with
people hoping to start new.

Soon new roots
were going to grow.
He looked behind him
and saw the memories
and the blood
trailing down the country lane.

  2. Yet another great piece of writing from Captain Awesome. I felt like I was there; the imagery was amazing! The ONLY problem is that in the first stanza, you said fields twice.

    Congratulations, there will be cake
