Poetry Notebook: The Lost Memories

Theme: Love and Death

Selected by: Vigan Osmani

Description

Everyone has great feelings towards somebody. Nobody wants to experience the persons they respect and love to die. But in all cases death can be banished with love. If you love someone never forget them since within every death there is misery. But all of it can be stopped with showing love and believing that they are always in your heart and there will be kept there for eternity never to be released. Love is more stronger than death. I came to realize all of that when my grandmother died and I mostly dedicate this notebook to her.

Synopsis

Most of the poems will be related to death and love. But certainly all of them show sadness within and they all make me feel differently in certain ways.

Benjamin Moore - Country Lane 2088-40

He stood there watching the
once beautiful field.
But as he came closer,
he saw dead bodies in the fields.

And if there was no movement
he would be soon part of the horror

Closed ears in hopes
of not hearing the screams.

The bombs still booming,
gunshots killing, blood flowing
down the country lane.

Snow falling
covering familiar
faces, worn out places

Fear and death
soon overcame.
the gunshots close
the pain loud
the blood near.

Fires burning
vans, villages
and homes.

The grounds soon covered
with Albanian blood
flowing down the country lane.

All leaving not knowing where,
running away from death
and misery.

Tanks crushing houses
and trees like toys.

The long walk
to the border,
the refugee camp
near filled with
people hoping to start new.

Soon new roots
were going to grow.
He looked behind him
and saw the memories
and the blood
trailing down the country lane.

Book Review

Marley & Me: Life and love with the world's worst dog by John Grogan

Publisher: HarperCollins

Genre: Memoir

Where I got it: Where I got it: It was a recommendation from a friend of mine.

One sentence summary: John Grogan and his wife buy a labrador dog called Marley, who they buy for practice before they make a child, but slowly Marley starts to make a change in both of they're lives and finally teaches them what really matters in life.

First Sentence: We were young.

First Chapter Review: The first chapter talks about John and his wife Jenny talking about what they should get for practice before they make a child. They decide that the best choice is to get a dog. They get a labrador and they call him Marley. With each passing day Marley grows and his actions need more responsibilites. Even though with all the mess Marley does he shows them that they need alot of responsibility to take care of a baby.

Verdict: A book that is funny, sad, and really interesting. When you see how much a dog can change your life it is just amazing. The author shows the love between the main characters and Marley. It was a blast to read. Definetly recommended

Cover comments: The cover shows Marley on the floor. Probably after he was brought in the house and staring at his new owners. Maybe he is happy that he is wandering around a new place and wondering what is happening to him.

Tormented By The Silence

The tide was coming in.
Grass was worn away.
The beach was dotted with
group of boys waiting
for the assembly.

He was searching his mind
for simple words
"We need an assembly."

He lost himself
in a maze of thoughts.
He stopped again.

Surrounded by the
comfortable presence.
He shouted:
"Shut up."

He's effort fell.
The storm broke as
he shrank away
defenseless to his seat.

The dispersed figures
became a discussion
and a random scatter.

A thin wail, lying
in the long grass, gibbering.

"I'm chief. I was chosen."
The sound of mock hunting
stirred in the dark
the tide was coming in.

The storm broke
the east comes from the water.
"Nuts."
Sit down. Ralph shouted.

He let out his spare breath.
Hands were reaching for the conch.
The tide was coming in.

They bumped frightently.
The beast stirred in the dark,
the sound of it sniggering.

A shadows fronted him
tempestuously
"Bollocks to the rules"
"Jack, Jack."

He was silent again
and peered into the
gloom.

Where I'm from

I am from war, from genocide.
I am from the beach sun where I become tan
I am from bicycles, cycling around the neighborhood

I am from the little growing country, from flija and dyner
I am from the runaway of death, from the forgotten land
I am from the push away of muslims, from atheism

I am from "go to this" and "don't get bad grades"
I am from the beautiful mountains of Kosovo
I am from Prishtina and the dying of innocent people

I am from smokers and the shallow people
I am from being scattered around the world
I am from June-August the only time I see my family

I am from the branch of Venera and Luan
I am from loving my grandmother
I am from guilt and betrayal to not keep my promise of seeing her again

I am from the guitar, and the responsibilities, from Atdhe and Kastriot (my cousins) and the kingdom of joy called Osmani and Daka
I am from the good grades, from a education
I am from the couch, where I grow old and happy.

I am from being proud  of our country, from moving and never staying put.
I am from the roses by the backyard, red and shiny
I am from video games, from sony and microsoft.

I am from the wind where I always get brought from one thought to another.
I am from cats and from petting them
I am from boat of dreams continuously changing

I am from the grayish grave imbued with memories
I am from the lightness of my father and the expectations of my mother
I am from the never breaking tree that holds our culture

I am from the drunk dreams of becoming this and that
I am from friendship and the depth of love
I am from the love of my country

I am from the suffering, from blood and losses of the ones I care
I am from Kosovo, from krenar te jesh shqiptar (proud to be albanian)

I am from the ever growing roots that follow the lives of my family,
from the fallen memories of my ancestors and from the appreciation of life.

Japan

On March 11th, 14:46 a devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan leaving the japaneze stranded. That was not it. The earthquake was followed by a horrible Tsunami afterwards

The earthquake came in the middle of the day as people were working. They felt a pang. The earthquake shaked the island nation of Japan as it was heard as far as Beijing.

Then the tsunami. The water's color was azure but not until it deluged many cars, buildings and what not more which completely changed it's color to black. Even with all those objects in the way the waves didn't decelerate. A copious ammount of people were stranded and clearly Japan's cry for help was audible around the world. The death toll was in big numbers and it was rising with every passing day.

Every adept scientist tried to be fastidious and they learned that the tsunami waves will come as far away as the Pacific Ocean.

Later days, the nuclear power plant in Fukushima seemed to have cooling problems and reactors exploded. With all of them exploding it would leave to a terrible disaster and to radiation aswell. It was crucial to cool down the reactors to faciliate the situation and so people wouldnt worry about that.

By far this earthquake that preceded the earlier one was far more devastating. Everything is fitful at the moment and fellow nations are trying to help Japan with whatever they can, mostly deploying surviving supplies. This event was truly one that's not worth bantering

Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl

Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl

The meaning of Anne Frank's book is the diary that was given on her birthday. To Anne it means alot that is why she even named it Kitty and Anne explains how Kitty is her best friend when she was young.

The book is about Anne Frank a young jewish girl living in the times of World War II.  She and her family are forced to go into hiding from the Nazis occupation in the Netherlands. In the "Secret Annexe" Anne starts to discover new things and experience new learnings such as love. Anne undergoes new feelings within the time she grows up in the "Secret Annexe"

Her diary is organized in dates in journal, and she uses her perspective of life to write about what had happened in the days she wrote in her diary. Kitty is the only "person" Anne can refer to and tell her the deepest thoughts

Anne comes to realize that life is hard in hidding and that with age she starts to experience new things. She falls in love with Peter who changes her life at that point. She also comes to realize about her relationship with other people from the "Secret Annexe" and her bad relationship with her mother.

Not only did I like the book but it is also touching. Every new date I was excited to see what Anne had experienced and I thought deeply in myself and realized that life was really hard for them in WWII comparing to our easy going life. I think everyone should read this book and learn about Anne Frank's daily experiences.

Some lines I loved were:
1. It is becoming a bad dream in daytime as well as at night, I see him nearly all the time and can't get at him. (160)
2. I wonder whether you can tell me why it is that people always try so hard to hide their real feelings? How is it that I always behave quite differently from what I should in other people's company (136)
3. A voice sobs within me: "There you are, that's what's become of you: you're uncharitable, you look supercilious and peevish, people dislike you and all because you won't listen to the advice given by your own better half." (267)
